Big Brothers

I had no idea how the boys would react to having another brother. They sure seemed excited to meet him. Jeff has a confirmed case of the H1N1 or swine flu so we are doing our best to keep contact to a minimum. It will be a while before I post pictures of the boys holding their little brother, but in the meantime here are some brother-bonding moments: The night before I went to the hospital Jeff kept asking to go to bed so it could be the "baby day". When we got ready to go to bed we found him on the rug in the hall. He is sooo happy the baby looks like him and loves to tell everyone.
Because of the "swine flu" the boys couldn't come to the hospital, they were so sad, but were ready to do anything we asked to see the baby when we got home. Even if it meant wearing masks until all the flu symptoms in our house are gone. They are so good about getting the hand sanitizer and masks when Henry wakes up.
They are such big helpers. As soon as I sit down to nurse I have three cups of water beside me. Ben picks out a new outfit for Henry everytime we change his diaper. Jeffey gets him toys when he cries and Lukey takes the diapers to the trash. Let's see how long the novelty lasts, but I'll take it!
Here is the green crib Ben drew for Lukey. I was worried he would be jealous, but he is just happy he isn't the baby anymore and loves to touch Henry's feet and watch me feed him my "tunnels".

Jeffey drew Henry in his crib. He is my "smotherer". He is constantly around the baby and loves to talk to him. He asked me today why Henry was "eating my elbows". We will go over anatomy in a few years, but for now tunnels and elbows work just great!!
Benjamin drew the toy he got for Henry. He also got a new Wii game while mom was in the hospital and the two new additions have made for an exciting weekend for Ben. He is so helpful and big.
Henry in his crib, by Ben.
Henry swaddled, his favorite place to be.
Henry is one lucky boy to have three older brothers that love him. When he cries they all converge with blankets toys and a song, usually "I had a little turtle" to comfort him. It is really rewarding to see all of them start to be friends.

Welcome to the World

Welcome to the world, Baby Henry.

"Fat man in a little coat", or the other way around. Brian getting ready to "assist" in the Operating Room. He always does so well and calms me down when I start to freak out, which I always do! Brian videotaped the event and I can't wait until I can watch it. (I still need a little distance)

The last picture of Henry squished, quite uncomfortably, inside my stomach.

Hanging out with Daddy in the hospital. The cute outfit Aunt Denia bought him, which is already too small.

With Mommy in the hospital room which was our home for four days and nights. We had the best nurses and I enjoyed getting to spend some time with my new son. The boys weren't allowed in so there are no cute family pictures on the hospital bed this time.

In the warmer just after being born.

Everyone has the perfect doctor for them, and this is ours. He has delivered all four boys and is such a great doctor and family friend. We are thrilled he lives in our neighborhood and we can play with his doggies.

Big hands, big feet!

Drumroll Please...

We are pleased to announce:
Henry
I couldn't be more in love with my new little boy. After starving all day we went to the hospital for the schedueled C-section. I was already in full blown labor when we got to the hospital, however the baby wasn't tolerating the contractions very well and we easily made the decision to go ahead with the C-Section instead of waiting for labor to progress. (I don't think it was ever even an option in my doctor's opinion) I was nervous to have a spinal, but it went really well and we had the best team of doctors in the OR and they put me right at ease. Within a few minutes met our new little boy. I was immediately taken with how big his feet and hands are. He suprised us with his mullet of dark hair. I thought when they washed it it would turn red, but so far he is officially not a redhead. We are the best nursing team out of the four and he is gaining weight without any suplementing!!! This makes me sooo happy. This fact alone has made the recovery a lot easier. We spent four days bonding in the hospital while Jeff recovered from the dreaded swine flu and what Henry will have to endure in hand-me-downs he will benefit from having a much more relaxed, confident mommy. I am enjoying every minute this time and the boys are so excited about their new brother. I missed them so much while I was at the hospital and it is good to be home.
In true Brian and Lanae style it took us a while to settle on a name, but I am also in love with our final decision. Brian's mom's grandfather's name was Henry. He was one of the first homesteaders that immigrated to Canada. He was a good man and I like the Canadian connection. The poor little guy will be forever spelling his middle name for everyone, but if I survived, so will he. It is neat to see my name again. I can't wat to see his little personality. I feel so blessed to have another healthy little man come to our home.

He's Here

Tuesday night we were thrilled to welcome this little guy into our family. Lanae did a great job and the C-section could not have gone any better. He was 7 lbs and 13 ounces. 19 3/4 inches long. His brothers are very disappointed they can't visit him at the hospital. (Stupid swine flu). We are not settled on a name yet, so feel free to offer suggestions. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes.

"Extreme" Camping

As in...extremely convienient, extremely cheap and extremely close to home! We set up the tent in the backyard last night for the boys to sleep in. (Mom stayed inside with the Cal-King to herself)
We had another boy cousin over, the four of them had a blast helping Daddy set up the tent, they are getting to be big helpers.
We had pizza and frozen grapes on the patio for dinner. (the convection oven was another perk of backyard camping)
Everyone got to have a nice warm bath also...this just keeps getting better.

They chowed on smores before climbing in the tent for the night.
These little boys loved every minute of being outside. They gathered their blankets and stuffed animals and settled in.
They watched Tom and Jerry and everyone was fast asleep by 8:30pm and up at 5:30am. It got a little nippy this morning so Brian had them all by him for the last few hours. Tonight will be an early night. A great weekend before the baby comes. Pretty soon there will four in the tent!

Park Crazies

We have been loving the weather and spent as much time as we can at the local parks. We have been trying out a new one everyday. October break couldn't have come with better temperatures. Yesterday we went to the "sand park" by my sister's house with our cousins. The kids were all about posing for the camera: Crazy Jeff and Ave
Ben is very proud of the fact he can cross his eyes!

Lukey loved the sand. Snot and sand do about the same thing as glitter and glue! We had a big bath as soon as we got home. Boys LOVE dirt.

Oh, Tooth Fairy

Benjamin lost his first tooth this morning! He was so excited. He was very patient and wouldn't let anyone pull it out. He wiggled it with his tongue for the last three weeks until it finally was pushed out by the adult tooth underneath. It is anticipated that the tooth fairy will be bringing a dollar tonight. He was very excited that Uncle Marshall had given his class treasure chests to put their teeth in so they wouldn't get lost. So big, Benjamin, so big.

Put a Fork In My Feet...They Are DONE!

I can't believe these are attached to my body! (although the rest of my body is looking a little "puffier" than usual also.) I have never swelled with the other boys, but this has been an added treat this go around. I have also gained more weight, it must be water right? I am addicted to pedicures and my nail lady even bought me a baby gift. We have seven days until my C-Section, unless something drastic happens to my 2cm dialation progress before then. At this point I'm not holding out much hope for a VBAC. Although I'm not looking forward to the recovery, I'm am getting anxious to meet our newest little boy and cool my body down a little. Somehow I always forget just how long the last few weeks are. But as long as I get another one of these handsome boys, it will all be more than worth it!
Ben, being his "posey" self. He is at that age where it is hard to catch anything natural. He is currently obsessed with UNO.

Luke has won over his brother's teachers at school and Jeffey's aide brought her real baby tortises to school for him to play with before pick-up. Squirtle and Tortuga were a huge hit with this little man. He even loves broccoli just because it is green!
Jeffey isn't gaining quite enough weight again, I swear the battle to make my children heavier will never end! So, for the meantime, I am obsessed with cramming him full of "healthy" calories, as well as plenty of McDonald's cookies mixed in. He is loving Pre-K and is doing so well. His is so social and loves his playdates.

They are all pretty excited to meet their brother. We still can't decide on a name, but for the record if it was up to them it would be as follows:
  • Benjamin would name him Ben and change his name to Mario
  • Lukey would be thrilled if we called him Koopa
  • Jefferson wants it to be "Baby Jake"
