I am starting to learn the ebb and flow of having kids. It is important to realize just what you can and can't do at different stages. It is also vital to remember that each stage comes and goes and eventually each baby gets big enough for you to do some of the things you have been missing. For example, you don't plan to host a bunch of parties right after you bring home a new baby. (that lesson only took once to learn!) But when that said baby grows a little you can venture out again and not be completed frustrated. At this stage in the game, Henry is getting independent enough that a quick trip to see the snow turned out to be a perfect trip that the boys are still talking about three months later.
Brian had his reservations that we wouldn't have enough snow. It turned out we went on a weekend that
received record levels and closed the roads for a day. We had enough and then some!
The boys got a chance to experience the white stuff well above their shoes and tromped through it having a great time. Although, as much as I warned them to keep their gloves on, the rookies had to learn that lesson the hard way and we did have some tears.
We also had to learn the hard way that a mini-van from the valley can't get itself out of the ditch when the snow is falling and the roads are covered in ice. Luckily the tow truck wasn't too far off and the boys passed the time playing.
Almost too soon we were out and on our way to find another hill to sled down that had
drivable roads to it.
The boys thought the whole ordeal just added to the adventure. Ben was in heaven and didn't really ever get cold.
This was Luke's first experience in the snow and he loved it! I can't believe at four years old this is the first time he remembers seeing weather like this. He keeps asking me if we can go back to the place where snowflakes fall from the sky all day long.
Jeffey loved it too, except when Daddy nailed him in the face with a snowball. After he recovered a bit, he
retaliated and all was fun again.
I was
surprised at how well H did in the cold. He was so happy to walk around and loved exploring the different
surroundings. He was all smiles all day.
We found a great little hill just suited right for our family and sledded until we were too hungry to keep going.
Henry loved zooming down the hill.
Jeff made his sled into a snowboard and made mommy and daddy proud.
After the sledding adventure and we heard the news that the roads home were home, we gladly checked into our hotel and got warmed up and walked to dinner across the street so the van didn't get stuck again. It was cozy in our room with the snow falling outside.
We woke up to freezing temperatures and the boys had fun building a snowman and sledding.
When we got the word that the roads were back open we got going and watch the snow disappear as we went back down to the valley. We had a fantastic time as a family and made some great memories. It was fun to be in the snow and it was fun to come home. I can't wait until the boys are big enough we can take them to the ski hill.
